I'm a Molecular Biology student at MSU (which stands for Moscow, not Michigan State University!) who grew up in the US (my parents work in our version of the AP). Other than the theater (both the regular and movie kinds), library and art gallery I spend my nonexistent free time as an instructor at Moscow Zoo's young biologists club (translation:I'm an avid naturalist and teach lots of little kids what the birdie that just whizzed by is called in Latin; also, I travel with this club all over Russia, visiting Natural Parks and doing research there).
My interests (other than the scientific ones) are literature (and by this I mean the stuff most people are forced to read in school, not the NY Times Bestseller list), art, music (mostly rock and classical), cinema (again, independent films and the greats, also some modern stuff, usually little known in the US and elsewhere).
My reasons for, em..., attempting to communicate with English-speaking normal human beings are:
a)I'm tired of being told to get rid of my American accent by people who don't know when to use "the" instead of "a"...
b)Honestly (and this is silly, I admit it) I adore the Russian worldview (you know, the "wierd" stuff in Tolstoy or Dostoevskiy), but I miss the familiar American one too.
c)I am tired of explaining to people who Jane Austen, Iris Murdoch, Virginia Woolf etc really are.(No, I'm sure philologists know quite well who they are, but biology majors :( ).
